GAGA OBSESSION

Tiina Rubber

You know sometimes you just want to shoot a model because they have a distinctive style, look, or persona. Tiina was one of those people…

Tiina Rubber

An ad hoc shoot was arranged at short notice and we agreed to meet in the premises of our favourite purveyor of all things nylon.

Tiina Rubber

In the rush to put everything together, I forgot to pack the radio triggers to fire of my lighting system.

Tiina Rubber

The net result was to shoot or not to shoot…Well luckily I always carry a couple of speed lights, better known as flash guns, in my bag. I didn’t have any triggers so had to go with the flash on top of the camera, which is 99% percent of the time an absolute ‘No-No’. However, needs must.

Tiina Rubber

Tiina made hr best efforts to quickly don the Rubber and Nylon combination that I had provided and made a sterling effort to run through elements of her posing routine.

Tiina Rubber

At the time she appeared to be one of the hardest working and most regularly shot models on the local scene. Now having moved to America I still follow her activities on FaceBook etc where we are friends. (Yes, for the record, I am not a stalker).

Tiina Rubber

All told despite the harsh shadows, not a bad coupe of hours shoot and some interesting shots developed along the way…

CHAPERONES

Ask any photographer their opinion on chaperones and you will get a very mixed response.

DemiRetroplusMumPxl

If  a new model is just breaking into the profession she, or indeed he, may ask if they can bring a chaperone along to provide some level of safety or boost their confidence.

We say safety because they do not know the credibility or attitude of the photographer. There are plenty of ‘Geek with Camera – GWC’ types who are more than happy to part with a wedge of cash to see a model disrobe to partial or complete nudity. Their ability as a photographer may be good or questionable, and it is a risk for anyone to compromise themselves when they do not know the person they are working with.

To act professionally we always discuss a models ‘levels of work’ prior to a shoot. We pitch for shoots by placing castings on professional modelling websites. These sites facilitate a model looking at references and testimonials written and placed on the site. Thus lending some credibility to the attitude and action of the photographer. Models are also left feedback to attest to their performance and abilities to turn up and work professionally.

We are lucky! As a male with female partner and assistant, the workload is delineated into girls working with the models on dressing, styling and make up and me looking after technical aspects of the set, the lighting and the shoot itself. It negates the need for a model to feel concerned as we have impeccable standards to ensure they feel comfortable at all times.

You can see from the fun attitude and engagement in this shoot, just how much the model has settled into her comfort zone. We get to know people so we can engage with them in a friendly and fun way which gets them relaxed and able to laugh and enjoy the time with us. The results speak for themselves.

Also we let a model set the level she is comfortable with and do not push her boundaries. There is enough gratuitous content out there to go to the Sun and back a million times. We prefer provocative tease where often less is more and the model remains clothed and lets her personality and swagger do the talking. If people have a desire to shoot nude, we can do this, we are after all not prudish and see nudity as a beautiful thing if expressed artistically. But we generally reserve working to this level with people we know and have shoot with several times, or where they have commissioned us to do a shoot for themselves or a loved one.

So coming full circle to give our opinion on chaperones. We welcome people who come with a good attitude and willingness to participate. So no jealous partners, and no people who just sit there and get in the way of any progress.

You can see in this instance the model brought her Mum along. We got along fabulously well and they got a couple of cool shots together that were not part of the planned shoot, but taken as a Thank You for the Mum’s fun attitude and input.

MATURE MODELS

We Love it when we make a new discovery…

We found a local lady who expressed her Love of our work and asked to shoot with us.

PRLegLove 267

She was very petite in stature, and ordinarily would have been hard to fit into retro nylons. Luckily we had in our huge repository of Vintage Nylons a very unique looking pair of Femina Tan Fully Fashioned stockings in Extra Small that fitted like a treat.

PRLegLove 235

You can see from the look on her face just how much she enjoyed wearing such decadent hosiery and taking part in the shoot in general. Some people are just so comfortable and natural in their ability to pose and this lovely lady is no exception.

A TWIST OF ELVISH!

We Trust you can see the humour in the title as this young lady had an uncanny knack of curling her top lip in an Elvis style…

LouiseDDFashionOutakes

The purpose of this shoot was to go for some fashion shots and classy boudoir to revamp the budding models portfolio.

As you can see she has a fabulous figure, tall and slender, and poses well

She took very well to the three styles we envisioned for her, and had a lot of fun during the fast paced shoot.

It also gave us the opportunity to try out some new retro foundation wear we had purchased with a modern twist. The grey shaping body worked like a dream at accentuating the best of her figure.

We recommend always guiding a model when putting on Fully Fashioned Nylons. Many young ladies will not have come across such delicate material, and we recommend they wear gloves when putting on the stockings, otherwise it is easy to get the inevitable snags and a pair of £20 nylons are ruined.

LouiseDDCervins

But then again some people like to see a run in a stocking, almost as much as they like to see the way old nylons wrinkle as they do not have lycra in them to provide some degree of stretch like modern yarns.

We enjoy helping models find a new look or style and revamp their portfolio. We provided all three outfits, stockings, pantyhose, props and styling for this shoot, and I find you’ll agree the results are rather splendid.

LOCAL MODELS

StephSolo 009

When one looks through the modelling portfolio sites it quickly becomes apparent that the number of girls available to shoot in North Kent is scant compared to other areas.

StephSolo 039

When we lived in Brighton, Sussex we had a queue of potential models going around the block who wanted to shoot with us. In Kent its been an altogether different result. In this neck of the woods there’s a dearth of people who put up a few blurry selfies and then ask for fees to shoot.

StephSolo 048

The cost of a studio, props, backdrops, kit, computer runs into thousands of pounds. Add in the skills of a professional photographer, make up artist and post editor/retoucher and there is a whole lot more to consider. In eight years we have rarely paid for a model to shoot unless we have a specific theme in mind and find the person with the right look to match the overall brief.

StephSolo 050

Luckily, from time to time we have found great models who give their time to shoot in exchange for a full set of pictures, with a few edited to magazine standard. These images are straight out of the camera with a few small tweaks in Adobe Lightroom. The fabulous lady here has long legs and a great smile and physique. She has done some promo modelling at Car Meets and has a very popular FaceBook following. With a great attitude and sense of fun we know we will be working with her again…
