THE POWER OF PASTIES

Libby Burlesque

An age old problem has always been ‘How to Undress’ discretely whilst maintaining a modicum of dignity and staying the right side of good taste.

Here we see a fabulous model wearing an array of fabulous Chantal Thomas hosiery, DIM Voile Brilliante Hold Ups, Killer Heels, Gloves and accessories.

Libby Burlesque

Its easy to establish a cheeky tone and rapport with an audience when dressed in such a fashion.

Libby Burlesque

Striking a pose and playing with one’s ruffles just becomes second nature.

Libby Burlesque

How to remove a bra in a tantalising, but acceptable presents considerable challenge.

Libby Burlesque

But our model was well practised in the Art of Burlesque and so knew exactly what she was doing.

Libby Burlesque

Back in times gone by it was considered an offence to publicly bear ones nipples so the application of fancy pasties was employed, stuck over the offending flesh to provide discretion and often sporting tassels so with the right gyrating movement a helicopter action would ensue, the breasts wobbling almost with a resonant life of their own and the hassles mesmerising the transfixed audience.

Also the use of a Fan or Feathers would be skilfully employed to ensure the view of the ladies breast was kept to fleeing glimpses, again adding to the tease.

All in all, a great way to undress had evolved, and we just Love o capture the essence of this in our Boudoir shoots for couples…

We are not quite sure how to label this post, but whatever the title the shoot made for an intriguing style…The tiddly hat worn atop the models head is often referred to as a ‘Fascinator’…

The model had the basic Bodice and lace dress to which we added the finishing touches. Of course ladies would not have worn nylon in those days, but the model had some delightful ink to display on her legs that we wanted to show through, so transparent shiny pantyhose were the order of the day.

Also we showcased one of our favourite props here. An original Jean Paul Gaultier Rubber Umbrella with ornate handle, which is currently on sale on eBay.

We also employed a combination of studio lamps punching light into the scene and natural light as seen in the shot above, whilst partaking of afternoon tea.

EdwardianGoth_5824

We had many bluebells growing in our garden and so found it appropriate to make up a little seasonal bouquet to complement her intricate make up.

We would like to point out that it is illegal in the UK to pick bluebells in the wild…so do take heed as there is a hefty fine if you are caught doing this.

Next accoutrement was a fine ebony and alpaca silver Gentleman’s walking cane. It is worth noting that whilst an expensive item, alpaca silver forming the handle at the top of the cane does not in fact contain any real silver. It is an alloy of copper, zinc and nickel that mimics silver.

Finally, our old shed, that we kept our lawn mower and other garden equipment in, fell down as the roundels of wood supporting its corners had rotted through. The Tin Roof provided to final piece of the puzzle for a different urban backdrop…

CHAPERONES

Ask any photographer their opinion on chaperones and you will get a very mixed response.

DemiRetroplusMumPxl

If  a new model is just breaking into the profession she, or indeed he, may ask if they can bring a chaperone along to provide some level of safety or boost their confidence.

We say safety because they do not know the credibility or attitude of the photographer. There are plenty of ‘Geek with Camera – GWC’ types who are more than happy to part with a wedge of cash to see a model disrobe to partial or complete nudity. Their ability as a photographer may be good or questionable, and it is a risk for anyone to compromise themselves when they do not know the person they are working with.

To act professionally we always discuss a models ‘levels of work’ prior to a shoot. We pitch for shoots by placing castings on professional modelling websites. These sites facilitate a model looking at references and testimonials written and placed on the site. Thus lending some credibility to the attitude and action of the photographer. Models are also left feedback to attest to their performance and abilities to turn up and work professionally.

We are lucky! As a male with female partner and assistant, the workload is delineated into girls working with the models on dressing, styling and make up and me looking after technical aspects of the set, the lighting and the shoot itself. It negates the need for a model to feel concerned as we have impeccable standards to ensure they feel comfortable at all times.

You can see from the fun attitude and engagement in this shoot, just how much the model has settled into her comfort zone. We get to know people so we can engage with them in a friendly and fun way which gets them relaxed and able to laugh and enjoy the time with us. The results speak for themselves.

Also we let a model set the level she is comfortable with and do not push her boundaries. There is enough gratuitous content out there to go to the Sun and back a million times. We prefer provocative tease where often less is more and the model remains clothed and lets her personality and swagger do the talking. If people have a desire to shoot nude, we can do this, we are after all not prudish and see nudity as a beautiful thing if expressed artistically. But we generally reserve working to this level with people we know and have shoot with several times, or where they have commissioned us to do a shoot for themselves or a loved one.

So coming full circle to give our opinion on chaperones. We welcome people who come with a good attitude and willingness to participate. So no jealous partners, and no people who just sit there and get in the way of any progress.

You can see in this instance the model brought her Mum along. We got along fabulously well and they got a couple of cool shots together that were not part of the planned shoot, but taken as a Thank You for the Mum’s fun attitude and input.

CHAPERONES

A huge swath of photographers don’t like the idea of chaperones joining a female model at a shoot. We understand the implications of a jealous boyfriend or husband cramping a model’s style and flow, but we have never turned down a female friend joining the session. So here starts our journey on today’s story…

Fluo Girly

In fact, sometimes a friend comes along who is so humble and self-effacing and yet they are a superstar waiting in the wings. One such lady came along to shoot to help a friend and experienced our fun and fresh approach and decided she wanted to try some pin up/ boudoir modeling.

DeeBird BabyDoll

This girl dressed down as a chaperone, but once made up and ready for the shoot looked simply stunning and very pretty. She confessed that she just loved the feel of the dotty pantyhose and RHT Nylons and said she rarely dressed like this in her day to day life. It made her feel feminine and attractive. Also she is a testament to the fact that a girl does not need to be stick thin to be a great model. Her ample figure fitted very nicely into the role of a retro minx, with a cheeky air about her, and an intoxicating smile.

DeeBird BabyDoll

She saw some pictures in the office of me performing shibari Japanese rope Bondage at a workshop plus some art nude bondage shots and confessed that she had always had a curiosity for this as an art form and means of possibly relinquishing control. Whilst she considers herself quite pushy and dominant with bratty tendencies in day to day life, she liked the idea of being submissive on occasion to either a male or possibly female.

DeeBird BabyDoll

So, I put her into a basic Karada body harness with a large grab handle worked into the array of binds and ties down her back. It was easy to demonstrate the power and control this puts into the hands of the Master effecting this restraint by holding the handle and giving her the feeling of being caught in a web. But, Trust is paramount and being a gentleman one knows not to step over any boundaries. This is after all a professional shoot and not a session of consensual bdsm. However, one can see from the shot above that she was in a happy place, and I was proud to have opened up a new facet of her personal experience.

DeeBird BabyDoll

The Art we created this day was truly astounding and such a pleasure to construct. The subtle erotic combination of bondage and Nylon is a genre that I will never tire of shooting and the delight of finding a new model from ‘out of nowhere’ is always a great gift. I also Love helping someone find a happy place and feel good about themselves.

We would like to add that these pictures are not retouched in any way. They have purely been put through a first pass edit in Lightroom and Aperture. So the model is very much as she is in the Flesh. We would also like to Thank the awesomely talented Master Orkadia, who is the edgier part of our team for sharing these tasteful bondage shots. He regularly praticises shibari and has held a number of workshops and one on one’s to teach the rudimental basics of safe consensual restraint. Pop over to his website for more detail ORKADIA

ENCASEMENT ART

ENEncased2

We had the opportunity of shooting a delightful alternative girl who was 4 months pregnant. We wanted to create something out of the ordinary that included Nylon…

And also celebrate a forthcoming Mother who had a cool radical style…

As always, my Wife was on hand to deal with all aspects of styling and helping the model to feel comfortable and nurtured, whilst I covered off the technical aspects of the high key shoot and captured the moment. I have since showcased a few key pictures from this set at select Exhibitions under the title of ‘The Bump’.
